FARMERS MARKET INCIDENT - 16 JULY 2003

During the shocking incident on 16 July when an elderly man apparently lost control of his vehicle and drove through crowds at a farmers market in Santa Monica, Edward was there. This is how his involvement was reported in the press:
"The son of Green Acres star, Eddie Albert, barely escaped death when a car tore through a crowded farmers market outside Los Angeles, missing him by inches.
After escaping with his life, actor Edward Albert Jr. emerged as a hero, performing first aid on nearly a score of mangled victims. Ten people were killed and dozens were hurt on July 16 when the car, driven by an elderly man, roared through the outdoor market filled with shoppers in the L.A. suburb of Santa Monica.
Albert, 52, was there buying herbs and homeopathic medicines for his 95 year old father.
"I heard screaming, and when I looked up, I saw a car plowing down the street at 60 miles an hour," recalled Albert, who has appeared in more than 70 movies and TV series over the past 40 years. "Bodies were flying everywhere. I jumped away - the car almost hit me. There was blood everywhere. I saw people who were dead and people who were dying. It looked like a bomb had dropped. It was the most terrible thing I've ever seen."
The trembling actor quickly pitched in to save lives. "I know CPR and first aid, and I did my best to help some of those who were bleeding and injured," he said. "I tried to make the victims comfortable and performed CPR when it was needed. I helped about 18 people who were right near me."
Albert was thankful his father didn't go to the market with him that horrible day"
Edward has a bit of a history of being in the wrong place at the wrong time! Thank God he wasn't hurt and was able to help others, as he always does in times of trouble.
